… Woman’s body on WCD road
Police have detained three more people in connection with the murder of the still-unidentified woman whose mutilated corpse was found Sunday on a roadway at Harlem, West Coast Demerara.
A police official said that the men are friends of the city taxi driver who was arrested some hours after reporting that his car was stolen in the same community where the body was found.

The friends were reportedly held after the driver said that they can substantiate his story.
When he was taken into custody, detectives observed scratches on the man’s body.
They have reportedly taken samples from the dead woman’s fingernails to ascertain whether she inflicted the injuries on the suspect.
According to police sources, some time after the body was discovered, the taxi driver visited La Grange Police Station on Sunday and reported that he was the victim of a carjacking.
A police official said that he alleged that he had stopped to urinate on the Harlem Rice Mill Road on Saturday night when the occupants of another car attacked him and made off with his vehicle.
A source said the mud-smeared burgundy taxi was subsequently found on the West Bank of Demerara.
The victim, who is of East Indian ancestry, was found around 09:00 hrs on Back Street, Harlem, which is flanked by rice-fields.
Police said that her body bore several stab wounds.
A police release said that the slain woman, estimated to be between 25 and 30 years of age, is fair in complexion, about five feet six inches tall, of medium build and with long black hair.
She was clad in a pair of blue three-quarter pants, white sleeveless top, blue and white brassiere and a pair of brown slippers.

Police have urged persons who might have information that would lead to the identification of the victim to contact the police on telephone numbers 225-6411, 225-2227, 268-2298, 268-2222, 268-2343, 911 or the nearest police station.
