Fisherman executed Surjaptti-Dhanchan Legal-steps-Khan-Lawyer Linden-PO-robbery
The relatives of a 24-year-old Sophia man were plunged into mourning following his execution-style killing last night in North East La Penitence. Sean Weeks was gunned down around 19:30hrs while he was riding a motorcycle, towing a friend. The friend survived the attack. His relatives could not give a motive for the killing but believe that it was committed by three men in a car. Eyewitnesses said that the car appeared to be trailing Weeks for several hours after he had left the funeral of one of the men that was killed by the security forces following the Rose Hall bank robberies. Pyola Weeks, the dead man's aunt, told this newspaper that she was in her yard when she saw a car with three men inside passing up and down the street in front of her house in North East La Penitence. “De car go around about three times and later I see me nephew ride pass and de car deh in front. All I hear is bow! bow! And people call me and tell me is me nephew,” the woman recalled. The shooting had taken place a few hundred yards from her house and she could not see what had happened. However, she went to the scene and found her nephew lying on the road. She said she saw the friend he was towing running away. The woman managed to stop a car and take the mortally injured Weeks to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. She had not spoken to her nephew for a while since he had not been visiting her recently. Weeks' cousin Abby said, “me cousin seh de car following dem since de funeral. I go and see me cousin lie down bleeding through he mouth.” Weeks was said to be a fisherman who worked on his uncle's boat on the East Coast of Demerara. But while no motive for the killing could be ascertained, relatives said that Weeks was involved in an altercation with a man who lived on a dam not far from his aunt's home. This newspaper understands that the killers were wearing masks. Thursday 08-24-2006
