RANKS of the City Constabulary have apprehended five jewellery snatchers who were handed over to the Police over the last two days.

The thieves were caught with the help of public-spirited citizens and beaten after snatching gold chains and bracelets from unsuspecting shoppers and passers-by in the Stabroek Market area, Georgetown.
But the five arrested were chased through nearby streets by people in angry mobs who witnessed the thefts.
All of the suspects are expected to appear in court today

On May 21, last, Marshall allegedly robbed Matha Persaud of $7,000 also at McDoom, East Bank Demerara.

The particulars of the offence stated that Persaud, the owner of a minibus, stopped in McDoom to effect some repairs to his vehicle. He later left for the Esso Gas Station in the same area. Upon his return, he was approached by the defendant, who, armed with a cutlass, pounced on him and relieved him of $6,000. The two engaged in a scuffle, during which, Marshall reportedly fired a chop at Persaud and then relieved him of another $1,000.
